The End Of DCoU & The Start Of DCnU!

& for Comic book week August 31st, 2011, I had to review the end of the old DC universe & the beginning of the new DC universe.....................but 1st I had to comment on my fav comic of the week!

Angel & Faith #1 (Dark Horse)
"You will not be forgotten."~Rupert Giles
executive producer: Joss Whedon
script: Christos Gage

assistant editor: Freddie Lins

special thanks: Debbie Olshan & Danial Kaminsky & Jim Gibbons

This was fun! But it should have been called "Angel & Faith~The Watcher's Files"! :(

Okay so this review might be a little hard to do if you have not read Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8..........& if you have not shame on you! lol! ;)

The rogue slayer Faith & the vampire with the soul Angel are now room mates in Buffy's watcher Giles former flat in London & they are tasked..........for reasons that I do not want to spoil!..........with fulfilling Giles' unfulfilled cases as written in his 'Watcher's Files' journal. Angel has done some thing that he really must make up to Giles for, & Giles had been mentoring Faith as she was trying to make up for all of her killing people things.............so the 2 are now working together. & they are 1st tasked with taking care of a little girl possessed by a squid demon. The story is just a quick little 1 to establish where we are in a world with out magic.........more or less...........& only a couple of slayers left..............so it was not my fav of all the Buffy comix but it is very good! & it ends with a fun cliff hanger as always promising............spoiler!..............the return of Giles! ;)

Christos Gage is a fabulous writer who right off seems to under stand both characters' personalities perfectly! Rebekah Isaacs is sooooo good I thought that she was Georges Jeanty from most of season 8............only rested & even better!

This series may be at the top of my reading list...........& not just because I have a little crush on Angel! 9,9

RATING: 9 of my supergirls out of 10!

Flashpoint #5 of 5 (DC)
"Do you remember, Barry?"~Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash/Professor Zoom

writer: Geoff Johns
penciler: Andy Kubert
inkers: Sandra Hope & Jesse Delperdang
colorist: Alex Sinclair
letterer: Nick J. Napolitano
cover: Andy Kubert, Sandra Hope & Alex Sinclair
variant cover: Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez & Rod Reis
assistant editor: Kate Stewart
associate editor: Rex Ogle
executive editor: Eddie Berganza

I was a little bit sad about the end of all the DC stories that I ♥. :'(

I feel a bit better now that I have read the last scene with Bruce & Barry. It was very sweet & made me think that maybe things might not be that much different in the new DC universe..........just all the new costumes............which are mostly just ick! :P

This issue wraps up the little side universe that Barry Allen..........the Flash natch! ;)...........took every 1 into. It just seems to wrap it all up so quickly with just Barry finding out from Professor Zoom...........who just shows up all of a sudden............how to return every thing to 'normal'. Then Thomas Wayne..........Batman............occupies the Professor so Barry can go back in time & fix it all. & a purple lady tells Barry that she is using this opportunity to combine DC & Vertigo & Wildstorm in to 1 universe to protect them all. Then there is the scene with Barry & Bruce...........Batman..............& every thing is new! o,O

I like the art work & I like the story & every thing came together more preferably than I had feared that it would. But I think that this ish is rating so highly mostly because the purple lady makes me feel more comfortable that she may be able to bring every thing back to the way it was before if it all goes badly wrong! *fingerscrossed!*

RATING: 7 of my supergirls out of 10!

Justice League #1 (DC)
"So...what can you do?"~Kal-el/Superman

writer: Geoff Johns
penciller: Jim Lee
inker: Scott Williams
colorist: Alex Sinclair
letterer: Patrick Brosseau
associate editor: Rex Ogle
editor: Eddie Berganza
cover: Jim Lee, Scott Williams & Alex Sinclair
variant cover: David Finch, Richard Friend & Peter Steigerwald

I liked it but did not love it. :(

This is the story of the new Justice League...........Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman & Cyborg............coming together as a team 5 years ago. & it seems to start with Bruce............Batman.............& Hal..............Green Lantern.............teaming up to catch an alien criminal in Gotham City & then going to talk to Clark...........Superman.............in Metropolis.

So Bruce & Hal are basically the same characters as before just set 5 years ago. & they do not like each other in the same way the Geoff Johns has always written them. & Bruce has the best moment of the whole comic book when he steals Hal's ring off his finger! lol! X))))

Clark...........& Victor Stone...........Cyborg...........who shows up for a little while before becoming Cyborg...........are not shown long enough to really see what their characters are really like............But they both seem different. Clark is more alien & detached & Victor is friendlier & more personable.

The art work is Jim Lee's usual fabulous art work if not seeming just a little bit dated. & I especially liked the samples of the costume designs at the end of the book...........although I think I actually prefer all of the unused designs to the 1s that they decided to use! In particular I find it funny that Supergirl has the boots originally planned for Green Lantern! X))))

& finally..........we get another hidden appearance of the purple lady & a Superman versus Batman fight next week............fun..............but I was hoping for more! :\

RATING: 7 of my supergirls out of 10!

So I would just like to say about the new DC that I can not see the new costumes lasting! People have a certain image of the characters in their minds that some of the costumes do not meet! I can not imagine a picture of Supergirl on a lunch box with out her red skirt! o,O

Also I am not sure that the new DC may not be very much closer to the old DC than it seems at 1st look.............maybe Superman is just the 1st super hero to appear after a long period when the Justice Society was forced to retire because they would not reveal their identities & that is why Superman is feared? `:/

& lastly the purple lady interests me............maybe she might be Amethyst or Black Orchid or the Time Trapper / Glorith or Destiny? Omg! You do not know what I am talking about the purple lady? Okay well this woman in a purple hood talks to Barry Allen as he is running through the time stream in "Flashpoint #5". She is the 1 that says she must bring 3 time lines together to strengthen them for "their impending arrival". Now she appears to be showing her self in the back ground of each of the 52 new #1 issues for DC! ooooooooooo! Spooky! XD

Talk u all next week! & comment to me! Or send me an email (my gmail is maid.of.mite!)! ツ*
