ツ♥ The Best Comic Book Week Ever! ♥ツ

Hi! So this week I have a bone to pick with Mister Scott Snyder! After 3 months reviewing his comix every month I did not want to review them again......................but "Detective Comics" was just soooooooo good again! But there were soooooooo many other good comix that for Comic Book Week May 25th, 2011 you all get Kara's quick reviews! & look how close together the scores are!..................except for 1. :(

Detective Comics #877 (DC)
(Scott Snyder & Jock, Batman created by Bob Kane)

Mister Snyder & Mister Jock! You have done the impossible! You have made me ♥ Richard Grayson even more than I did before! "Hungry City, Part Two of Three" has beautiful art work.........look at the cover!..........& I could not put the story down! omg! omg! omg! what do I have to tell you to go read this!!!!!!!???????
9 ½ sunny days!!!!!!!
☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼

American Vampire #15 (Vertigo/DC)
(Scott Snyder & Rafael Albuquerque, American Vampire created by Scott Snyder & Rafael Albuquerque)

I should just say read the 1st review & put Albuquerque where I said Jock! "Ghost War, Part 3" is almost as good but it does not have Dick. :'( lol!
What it does have is a fabulous woman in the lead role in Pearl Jones & more raw art work............♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it!
9 sunny days!!!!!!

Incorruptible #18 (Boom!)
(Mark Waid & Marcio Takara, Incorruptible created by Mark Waid)

"Incorruptible" is Mark Waid's mirror image to "Irredeemable" where 1 of the world's worst villains becomes a hero.............scared for the world when the world's greatest hero becomes the worst villain in the "Irredeemable" comic. I have read both of these comix & this is my fav of the 2. Max Damage is a really unique character. The hero Plutonian becoming a villain is easy to see...........it is Superman going bad with power. But Max Damage is different............he decides to become good because of some sort of fear or balance & no one really knows what he might do next! & the fabulous supporting characters just add to the mysteries!
9 sunny days!!!!!!
☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼  ☂

Kill Shakespeare #11 (IDW)
(Conor McCreery & Anthony Del Col, Andy Belanger)

"Once More Unto The Breach" is the 2nd to last chapter in the "Kill Shakespeare" series where William Shakespeare becomes a character in all of his own plays & some of his characters want to kill him & some want to save him...........this is just a really interesting story with fun art work & fun ideas! If Shakespeare in high school were like this I could have totally followed it sooooo much more easily! When this is made in to a trade paper back I really recommend you buy it!
8 ½ sunny days!!!!!

Alpha Flight #0.1 (Marvel)
(Greg Pak & Fred Van Lente, Ben Oliver & Dan Green & Frank Martin)

Canada's greatest heroes are back! Beautiful art work & an interesting but brief story are found in this Marvel 0.1 event-ish comic. It is really meant to set up the new series coming up shortly & does not really tell a fulfilling story but for a comic that I did not really have high hopes for I will be reading the new issue #1. I just hope they bring back Puck! He was always my fav sexy lil elf! ;)
But where this story does fall down is I am confused how the characters are all alive! They have all died from different causes & now they all come back with out explanation! Oh & Alpha Flight always makes me *giggle!* since with 8 characters there are only 4 & a half costumes!
8 sunny days!!!!

The Walking Dead Weekly #21 (Skybound/Image)
(Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard & Cliff Rathburn, Walking Dead created by Robert Kirkman)

I said it was a big week! A comic by Robert Kirkman fell all the way down here on the list! But the art work is not really as strong as when the series started & it is getting a bit the same from week to week......but I will keep reading it. The writing is why you should read it. But I will say that for me a noticed the sameness problem when I read 1 of the later issues......the weekly re prints the monthly that is much farther along......& did not notice that it was not the next chapter of the story. O,o
7 ½ sunny days!!!

Action Comics #901 (DC)
(Paul Cornell, Kenneth Rocafort & Jesus Merino, Superman created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Doomsday created by Brett Breeding & Jerry Ordway & Louise Simonson & Roger Stern & Dan Jurgens)

I read this comic because of the fabulous Lex Luthor stories that were in the comix leading up to "Action Comics #900" & because Supergirl is in it. The cover is pretty but I did not ♥ the art work in side.........it is kindof stiff..........& the story is a little bit boring. But may be it is because the other comix this week were sooooooo good. I do not think this 1 was bad just a little bit blah! :(
5 sunny days.

Opposite day! ツ*

No jumping ahead! ;)

RATING: 6½ pumps out of 10!

Yah I am writing this ep in reverse! May be you can guess what book I am writing about by the end.........or the start? O,o lol!

The cover by Adam Hughes is the normal Adam Hughes.............gorgeously decorated & rendered to look like it could be from a camera............except no woman alive could look like that & only in play boy magazine would she dress like that! But the dress is some what acceptable for this character as she does have reason to dress that way..............& she does not run & jump & kick like many of her peers.

The story by Paul Dini is very good but is just a little bit boring! Nothing really happens but it does set up & continue to set up some future story lines that I am growing very curious about..........the dream sequence at the beginning that the main character has leaves me very curious about what the mystical mystery around her assistant Mikey..........that has been hinted at previously...........might be. & Brother Night by the end of the story is becoming very formidible..........particularly with his new tie to Detective Colton..........an obvious love interest for the main character. & the last plot item of interest is the interaction of the main character with the all powerful Spectre..........she easily holds her own proving Dini does know her character & can make her quite enjoyable if he wants to! But why would the story even try to make us believe that the Brother Night character as powerful as he is would be locked up in a normal prison! That just seems silly! O,o

But the art work is why you should buy this book & it is the art work that gave it at least 1 extra shoe ( ;b ) in my rating! Jamal Igle is fabulous! He tells the story but makes it very pretty & can handle the action scenes & the quiet moment & the humor particularly well..........which is important to this character to convey her sense of humor! She would not be Zee with out it!

Yah! Kara's comic this week is "The Cat With The Crystal Ball Eye"...............

Zatanna #13 (DC)

Birds of Prey #12 (DC)

"No. I know what you are. I'm afraid they'll get hurt."~Rene Montoya / The Question

writer: Gail Simone (♥!)
artist: Jesus Saiz
colorist: Nei Ruffino
letterer: Carlos M. Mangual
cover artist: Jesus Saiz
assistant editor: Katie Kubert
editor: Janelle Asselin

Comic Book Week: May 11th, 2011

Kara`s comic this week is the amazing brilliant fabulous "Hostile Takeover Part 1 of 2-A Thin Edge Directly To The Brain"! The ladies of the birds thrill me once a month & this month is no different!

Ms. Simone (♥!) always tells a funny heart felt story & the latest tale is just 1 more in the same vein, as computer guru Babs / Oracle leads Dinah / Black Canary, Helena / Huntress, Zinda / Lady Black Hawk, Dawn / Dove, new member.........maybe?..........Rene / Question, & odd mallard...........*giggle!*..........Hank / Hawk on an old fashioned spy mission to infiltrate a sneakie bad guys high rise lair. There are some bad cops & some bad gals & some flirtie dealings & it all ends up with the return of the best DC villain after Harley Quinn & Joker & Lex Luthor..........& yes I put Harley 1st intentionally! ;b

Saiz & Ruffino.........& Mangual...........are a fabulous art team...........with nice dark muted work that bursts out for the action scenes. Although it was a little bit stiff this ish that only made sense for the subtle spy work going on for much of the story.

The strength of the birds is in the characters & the ladies are all women whom I would like to be friends with..........Zinda especially is quickly becoming my fav! & I did say ladies because I am just not luving Hank / Hawk..........I want to but I miss Creote & Savante as the other gender`s representation. :`(

1 last note...........look at the cover! ♥ it! Look at the looks on Zinda & Dinah`s faces! X)

So the rating in honor of my new favorite character.............
RATING: 9 Zindas out of 10!

& as a special bonus to explain the 1 out of 10 rating here is my least fav comic this week..........it is not a whole review but................
The New Avengers #12 (Marvel)
by Brian Michael Bendis, Howard Chaykin, Mike Deodato, Edgar Delgado, Rain Beredo, VC`s Joe Caramagna, Lauren Sankovitch, Tom Brevoort, Axel Alonso, Joe Quesada, Dan Buckley & Alan Fine with special thanks to Stuart Vandal, Michael Hoskin, Ronald Byrd & Kevin Garcia

I like the New Avengers. I really do! But with Wolverine, Spider-man, Captain America, Mockingbird, Hawkeye, Jessica Jones, Ms. Marvel, Thing, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Nick Fury, Sabre tooth, Victoria Hand, Namora, Kraven the hunter, Blood stone, Dominic Fortune, Silver Sable, Red Skull, Superia & Squirrel Girl (♥!) in side why is Magneto on the cover!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? 8O

*hugs&kisses!* ツ*

Captain America & Thor, The Mighty Fighting Avengers Free Comic Book Day (Marvel)

"I just got here...unexpectedly. What's your excuse?"~Captain America

writer: Roger Langridge
artist: Chris Samnee
colorist: Matthew Wilson
letterer: VC's Rus Wooten
cover: Chris Samnee & Matthew Wilson
editors: Sana Amanat &Michael Horwitz
editor in chief: Axel Alonso
chief creative officer: Joe Quesada
publisher: Dan Buckley
executive producer: Alan Fine

Comic Book Week: May 4, 2011 (free comic book day edition!)

I was looking for Archie's free "Pep Comics" but my lcbs........local comic book shop natch!.......was sold out so this week Kara's comic is "Once and Future Avengers!"

& I am soooo glad it is! As before Marvel..........as they should..........are trying to take advantage of the 2 movies that they have just released and / or are shortly releasing............"Thor" & "Captain America: the First Avenger". & they threw in the kitschie title to tie them together! & it works fabulously!!!!!!!!!

The art work is fun & works in the world war 2 & modern era & ancient camelot where the heroes meet. The story is fun & light & manages to fit in the continuity of the movie........"Thor" was great btw!..........& the comix without being tied to any of them. The whole comic just tells a neat little tale of Captain America & Thor meeting for the first time to fight Thor's brother Loki's scheming & ties up in a fun little bow at the end.

My only 2 complaints are that it would have been even more fun if Iron Man were included & I wish there would be more of Samnee & Langridge next month! :'(

RATING: 9½ betties out of 10!

& just to let you all know I ♥ed "Thor"! Chris Hemsworth is gorgeous! :9

But not as gorgeous as ♥RDJ in "Iron Man"♥!!!!!!!

until next time yall! lol! ;*)

Scott Snyder Bogo! ;)

Hi guys! Special week this comic book week April 27, 2011! It is bogo! 2 for the price of 1!

I ♥ a sale! & I newly ♥ Scott Snyder! & he wrote 2 fabulous books last week so here goes!

American Vampire #14 (Vertigo/DC)

"Sometimes you're just too close to something to see it clearly. To see it for what it really is."~Henry Jones

writer: Scott Snyder
art & cover: Rafael Albuquerque
colors: Dave McCaig
letters: Pat Brosseau
assistant editor: Joe Hughes
editor: Mark Doyle

American Vampire created by Snyder & Albuquerque

The 1st of Kara's 2 comix this week is "Ghost War Part 2".............this is the 2nd part of a story of vampires during the 2nd World War. Skinner Sweet was a new breed of vampire created in the American west who sired Pearl Jones née Bailey. Pearl & her husband Henry are hiding in Pearl Harbour where a group of vampire hunters.............who seek Pearl out to learn how to kill Skinner..........find them & recruit Henry...........who is a soldier...........to join a group hunting enemy vampires on a south pacific island. He goes with them but does not tell Pearl who in the 1st part learns that Skinner is probably on the island too. This may seem like I have given away much of the story line but believe me this is only the beginning!

American Vampire started with the assistance of the fabulous Stephen King but Snyder has not seemed to notice the loss of his partner! It is thrilling & tense & sexy!............Skinner is soooooooo much a bad boy! & Rafael continues to match the stories perfectly with his dark disturbing sketchie period art! The colors & letters are muted & dark & round out the package too perfection!

Although I am not as big of a fan of the war setting as the 1920s Hollywood or old west of the previous stories.........sorry for being too much of a fashionista I guess..............the tale does make me care far more for a style I have never particularly been interested in than I thought I could or would. So the 1st rating is.....................

RATING: 8 rising suns out of 10!

Detective Comics #876 (DC)

writer: Scott Snyder
artist & cover: Jock
colors: David Baron
letters: Sal Cipriano
assistant editor: Katie Kubert
associate editor: Janelle Asselin
editor: Mike Marts

Batman created by Bob Kane

"Hungry City Part 1 of 3" stars Bat-wing.............♥ Dick! ( ;9 )..............not Batman classic Bruce...............*hugs!* for Bruce!................& is a beautiful old fashioned detective story with touches on Dick's ( ♥ ;9 ) past & a killer whale in a bank! 8O

As you may have noticed I did not start with a quote because the best way to describe how much I ♥ this book is a beautiful splash page by the fabulous Jock with the poetry of Dick's ( ♥ ;9 ) words as told by Scott...........click the link to see it...............NOW!!!!!!!!! ;b:

http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/files/2011/04/dtc876_11.jpeg

"It's funny, back when I was young, I couldn't understand why Bruce never used the plane...

"...why he always chose to drive the streets, moving on the ground through the alleys, when he could have just soared above it all.

"But I get it now. Because even back then he understood that Gotham is a place you can never get above, a place you can never see clearly.

"Every time you try to get some purchase, the city changes beneath you, surprising you in new, terrible ways.

"So why try? That was Bruce's attitude back then. It's still his attitude now. You stay low, close to the fight. It's all about the fight now, today, in front of you.

"I can't help it, though. I'm built differently. Because there's something about seeing Gotham from the sky that energizes me, gives me hope, if only for a moment..."

With those words we see why Dick ( ♥ ;9 ) is not Bruce but he is Batman.........as he breath takingly plunges in to the canyons of Gotham!

omg............if I smoked i would need a cigarette!

RATING: 9½ whales out of 10!
