Marvel Holiday Special #1 (Marvel)

On the 1st day of Chanukah I would like to honor the holidays by making Kara's comic for Comic Book Week December 14th, 2011, Marvel Holiday Special!

"Happy Holidays, Dirtbag!"~Benjamin Grimm / Thing

cover artists: Tim Seeley & Leonardo Olea
digital production manager: Tim Smith 3
collection editor: Cory Levine
assistant editors: Alex Starbuck & Nelson Ribeiro
editors, special projects: Jennifer Grünwald & Mark D. Beazley
senior editor, special projects: Jeff Youngquist
senior vice president of sales: David Gabriel
svp of brand planning & communications: Michael Pasciullo
editor in chief: Axel Alonso
chief creative officer: Joe Quesada
publisher: Dan Buckley
executive producer: Alan Fine

"Cold Hearted Christmas"~Miljenko Horvatic, Andrew Trabbold, Jeff Campbell, Rob Steen, Jody LeHeup

In the 1st story of this collection Spider-Man encounters a Mohawk thief & arrests her but then feels bad for her about her lost family & delivers her a gift in prison. That is the whole story as told by her. The art work is the best of the 4 stories but the story is only okay.

Have a good winter solstice! ;*)

6 snow people out of 10!

"Logan's Lost Lesson"~Kurtis J. Wiebe, Patrick Scherberger, Cory Hamscher, Veronica Gandini, Simon Bowland, Jordan D. White

In the 2nd story Logan...........Wolverine natch! ;) ..........Kitty Pride & Bobby Drake...........Ice man natch! ;) .............decide to teach a team of young mutants a lesson by making them play a hockey game. The story is not not fun but I do not under stand what the lesson was! O,o

Happy holiday bub! ;*)

5 snow people out of 10!

"Ol' Saint Nick"~Aaron Shaps, Sebastian Piriz, Jeff Campbell, Rob Steen, Sebastian Girner

In the 3rd story Colonel Nick Fury of SHIELD..........Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-Enforcement Division *whew!* natch!.............invades a Hydra............they are the bad guys............base to give a message to the "young Hydra upstart" called The Scar on Christmas Eve. The message may be made me tear up a little bit but the story & art work could have been worked on a little bit longer..............& I thought that Nick Fury was Jewish? `;S

Merry Xmas! ;*)

4 snow people out of 10!

"Chinese Food for Christmas"~James S. Rich, Paco Diaz, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, Jeff Eckleberg, Daniel Ketchum

In the last story Benjamin Grimm is on his way to enjoy a Chinese food feast with his Jewish super hero friends on Xmas day when he is side tracked by a monster stealing worth less Xmas things. It turns out that the monster was being lead by poor orphans so Benjamin invites them to dinner. This is a nice little story with decent art work.

L'chaim! ;*)

6 snow people out of 10!

iZombie #20 (Vertigo / DC)

"Secret were-terrier stuff, I guess."~Ashok

writer: Chris Roberson
artist & cover: Michael Allred
colors: Laura Allred
letters: Todd Klein
assistant editor: Gregory Lockard
editor: Shelly Bond

(iZombie created by Roberson & Allred)

Kara's comic for Comic Book Week December 7th, 2011, is "Take Out"..............& from the cover to the last page it is just lots of fun!

As you can all see the cover is an homage to Teen Beat Magazine & may be Fangoria too..............& then a fabulous round about tale where the main character Gwen ends up pulled from her boy friend while her bffs.............best friend forevers natch! ;) .............Ellie the ghost & Spot the were terrier get to fight for their own love lives with a Frankenstein's Monster & a cute guy possessed by the ghost of a really old & stuffy super hero! & there is a a whole vampire menage a trois thrown in just in case you were getting board! Oh! & the Dead Presidents are in here too! *whew!*

So if you have been reading my reviews at all you know my feelings that Chris Roberson is just............! :) & Mike & Laura Allred are just living legends soooooooo there is really no way that this comic can not be the most fabulous thing to come in to your LCBS............local comic book shop natch!............in the past week is there? ;)

RATING: 9 zombies out of 10!!!!!

This week I also saw that I have had more than 5000 page views! Thanx to all of you for coming to read! *mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!**mwah!*

The Walking Dead Weekly #48 (Skybound / Image) / Superman Secret Identity #2 (DC)

So I had to have 2 Kara's comix for Comic Book Week November 30th, 2011..............& I hope that I can get across to you why!

"Don't look back, Carl--just--"~Rick

creator, writer: Robert Kirkman
penciler, inker, cover: Charlie Adlard
gray tones, cover colors: Cliff Rathburn
letterer: Russ Wooton
editor: Sina Grace

Kara's 1st comic is The Walking Dead Weekly #48.......................wow! 8O

the television show on AMC...........as I have said in the past............& I have said how much I  this comic.................but this ish......................wow! 8O

The biggest bad guy in the whole of the Walking Dead universe..............the Governor..................& if you do not know who the Governor is you have to do some reading................attacks our heroes' prison home & everything changes! & that is all I can say! What you think is the last thing that could ever happen is not the last thing that could ever happen & the last thing that could ever happen happens!!!!!!!!!!!! Really! It is sooooooooo much more shocking than what just happened in the 1/2 season finale!

& the art work is fabulous as always! ;)

RATING: 8 ½ zombies out of 10!!!!

"It's not a little secret. It's not safe. Not harmless. I just don't know if that makes it all right to intrude. Or worse."~Clark Kent

writer: Kurt Busiek
artist: Stuart Immonen

Kara's comic was going to just be the Walking Dead until I read this ish! A man in the real world named Clark Kent grows super powers at the age of 13...............& the result is a wonderfully  warming tale!

Ironically every 1 jokes that Clark...........who is a writer but not for a major metropolitan news paper...........is Superman............with out knowing that he actually is! He wears the costume in the belief that if any 1 sees him they will think that they are hallucinating. & he marries an Indian woman named Lois. The whole story is so fabulously crafted to see how this man named Clark Kent with out wanting to begins to live   Superman's life............while trying to live a normal life.

In this ish Lois & he have twin daughters...........Jane & Carol..........who he must protect from a government that he fears is trying to find him out...............& who may or may not have inherited his super powers. & this is the story.............Superman as a family man.

Stuart Immonen is as always a genius in the art work & I  that they are the only credits..........no offence to any of the other creators who may have been involved but this seems like such a simple & intimate tale that it seems so appropriate.

I have not read ish #1 but I will have to go back to my LCBS..........local comic book shop natch!...........to find it...............& so should you! :)

RATING: 9 ½ Supergirl twins out of 10!!!!!!!

The Good ☺ , The Bad ☹ & The Ugly ☠ Part 3!

The last time that I did the good & the bad & the ugly was in August! omg! So for Comic book week November 23rd, 2011 here we go 1ce again!

I, Vampire #3 (DC)

writer: Joshua Hale Fialkov
artist: Andrea Sorrentino
colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
letterer: Pat Brosseau
cover artist: Jenny Frison
associate editor: Wil Moss
editor: Matt Idelson

(I, Vampire created by J.M. DeMatteis & Tom Sutton)

I thought that this may be the last time that I read I, Vampire but in this ish.........."Numb"...........I finally see where the story is starting to go & I think that I may enjoy it! :)

this is really soooooo very pretty!

In the 1st 2 ishes not I did not feel that the story was developing & kindof jumped around but with this ish the tale seems to have pointed in a direction & identified the good guy.........hottie! ;9 ............Andrew & the bad girl...........major villain is a woman! go girl! ;)) ..........& the good guy's side kicks in Professor John Troughton & vampire slayer Tig. & next ish we get to go to Gotham City & maybe meet Batman!

But in this ish it was really the art work that grabbed me! Wonderful to look at............even if an artist I  very much but I shall leave nameless pointed out some thing on twitter about other artist using photo shopped photo graphs in their work.............it left me some what suspicious of the art work on I, Vampire but I will give Andrea & Marcello the benefit of the doubt because it is so dark & pretty! 9,9

RATING: 8 goods out of 10!!!!!!!

Superman #3 (DC)

script & breakdowns: George Pérez
pencils: Nicola Scott
inks: Trevor Scott
colors: Brian Buccellato, Brett Smith & Blond
letters: Carlos M. Mangual
cover: Pérez & Buccellato
associate editor: Wil Moss
editor: Matt Idelson

(Superman created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster)

"A Cold Day In Hell" is a fabulous throw back to a silver age Superman story told with all the fun the wonderful & amazing & fabulous master of comix George Pérez can provide with the expertly deft & sooooo talented that she makes me want to cry Nicola Scott providing beautiful art work! I really do not want to spoil any of the story but this is very much my favorite of all the new Superman comix..........not including Supergirl! ;)

If you are not reading this 1 & have never appreciated Nicola's art work..........which for several pages I for got was not the amazing Mister Pérez's!!!!!!!!!!!!!..............you should! But.............

 clark but lois & perry
r soooooo rite! :(

This isn't my Superman! :(

I miss the boy scout! Superman is the hero that is perfect! Behind the scenes maybe he is not but that is the man that we see! & this angry Batman like, Punisher kindof guy is not Superman!

But the story & art work are sooooooooooooo good so................

RATING: 2 bads out of 10!!!!!!!!

Fantastic Four #600 (Marvel)

writer: Jonathan Hickman
penciler: Steve Epting (part 1), Leinil Francis Yu (part 4)
inkers: Rick Magyar with Steve Epting (part 1), Gerry Alanguilan (part 4)
artist: Carmine Di Giandomenico (part 2), Ming Doyle (part 3), Farel Dalrymple (part 5)
colorist: Paul Mounts (part 1), Javier Tartaglia (part 4)
color artists: Andy Troy (part 2), Jordie Bellaire (part 3), Jose Villarubia (part 5)
letterers: VC`s Clayton Cowles (parts 1,2,3,4), Farel Dalrymple (part 5)

editors: Denning, Sankovitch & Brevoort
editor in chief: Axel Alonso
chief creative officer: Joe Quesada
publisher: Dan Buckley
executive producer: Alan Fine

(here from day 1: Stan Lee & Jack Kirby :) )

OMG!

I do not think that I can possibly review this ish! It comes in 5 parts with soooooo many different artists & I started out not liking the story but growing to like it at the end even tho there is only 1 writer & there is sooooooo much going on &...................

*gasp!*

The ugly is just this!
ick! Xp

Spidey's white costume is just...............ick! Xb

RATING: 9 spidey armors not from Civil War out of 10.

Check In On DC's New 52!

Kara's comic for Comic book week November 16th, 2011 will be a bunch just because I realized that I think that this week in the month looks to be my new fav with the new DC 52! Not that I do not  Batgirl & Aquaman & Animal Man & Batwing but this week seems to be consistently fun!

Batman #3 (DC)
(Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion)

Scott Snyder's Court of Owls story has me riveted! & the best part of the story was the flash back to Bruce Wayne's architect ancestor that started this ish.............Greg & Jonathan's art work is just fabulous in portraying the gothicness of Gotham!

9 Supergirls!!!!!!

Supergirl #4 (DC)
(Michael Green, Mike Johnson, Mahmoud Asrar, Bill Reinhold)

The newest Supergirl was not my fav...........but I am being won over ing the way that Kara truly feels like a stranger dropped in to a strange land............this ish has a feeling like Alice in Wonderland only Alice is from Wonderland & follows the rabbit in to the real world. :)

& although I still do not  her boots the rest of the costume is growing on me.............& Kara gets a power that Kal does not have............or does not know about! 9,9
9 Supergirls!!!!!!

Nightwing #3 (DC)
(Kyle Higgins, Eddy Barrows, Eduardo Pansica)

Dick Grayson & this new series has been very true to my Dick Grayson! I like that he is being brought back in to the circus life as it creates a very new element that I have not read about in other comix. & even his new love interest Raya is more tolerable to me with this ish's back story on her. :(

Also I do not know if the excuse for the name of Dick's new enemy Saiko is real but it does actually have a meaning in Japan that makes me appreciate its value more! :)
9 Supergirls!!!!!!

Justice League #3 (DC)
(Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, Scott Williams)

Although I could have done with out the very cliche Cyborg parts of this story I really enjoyed the young Wonder Woman! Diana is head strong & ready to fight & but conversely friendly & ing life............& ice cream! :)

The dialogue is not that fabulous...........I did not mind Hal's "dibs" that much as I have found him to be a bit of a jerk since the 1st ish any way :(................but the art work is fun even if Diana's costume is a little more.............less there 9,9.............than in her own comix.
7 Supergirls!!!!!

Birds of Prey #3 (DC)
(Duane Sweirczynski, Jesus Saiz)

I do not  the new Birds of Prey as much as the old Birds of Prey but I can not help but enjoy it! The art work is fabulous & the story line is compelling..............I just try to for get any thing that I ever remember about the characters.

But can some 1 explain to me Poison Ivy? She seems to have new powers that she never had in the old DC doesn't she? o,O
7 Supergirls!!!!!

Wonder Woman #3 (DC)
(Brian Azzarello, Cliff Chiang)

Please do not think that I placed Wonder Woman sooooo far down this list because I do not enjoy it............I do! Very much so! But not very much happens in this ish! There is a little bit of interaction between Diana & her mother revealing Diana's true father.............it all seems real enough but I just did not feel very much  where there should have been a lot.

But I still did  it! :)
7 Supergirls!!!!!

Captain Atom #3 (DC)
(J.T. Krul, Freddie Williams II)

I think that it is kind of humorous that Doctor Manhattan in The Watchmen was based on Captain Atom & now the new Captain Atom seems so very much not like Captain Atom but more like Doctor Manhattan.............I wonder if I'll ever get to see his............you know? 9,9 lol!

Really this was not bad by any means but I am just not being drawn in.........& the misogyny of Doctor Alexander is very much bothering me! :(
4 Supergirls

Special Bonus Review!

Captain America #4 (Marvel)
(Ed Brubaker, Steve McNiven, Jay Leisten, Justin Ponsor)

I had to add Captain America to the list! Steve McNiven's art work has been wonderful through out this series so far! & the story line has been intriguing as well!
9 Supergirls!!!!!!

That was 4 ratings of 9! Fabulous week!

Bye! ツ*

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse Epitaphs #5 (Dark Horse)

"Hello? Am I talking to an actual person?"~an Ivy :)

story by: Andrew Chambliss, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tanchardoen
script by: Andrew Champliss
pencils by: Cliff Richards
inks by: Andy Owens
colors by: Michelle Madsen
letters by: Nate Piekos of Blambot®
cover by: Phil Noto
variant cover by: Frank Stockton
designer: David Nestelle
consulting editor: Scott Allie
assistant editor: Freddye Lins
editor: Sierra Hahn
publisher: Mike Richardson
special thanks to: Debbie Olshan

Kara's comic for Comic book week November 9th, 2011, is the 5th & final ish of the mini series based on the late Fox television show "Dollhouse".

I was not a tremendous fan of the television show although I am sure like all of Joss Whedon's work that it probably would have become a favorite given enough time. My bf thinks Eliza Dusku is amazing.............especially as Faith on Buffy...............but I suspect he has extra reasons that I do not! 9,9

Still, in this mini series a very good job is done to make the story self explanatory. Basically the Rossum Corporation creates a way to over write the personality of people with new personalities...............making human dolls that live in Dollhouses.................& there you have the name! :)

So the star of the show.............Echo...............has the ability to not completely lose all of her personalities. So when Rossum decides to use the new tech as a weapon...................by calling people all over the world & over writing their personalities...................Echo becomes the key to stopping them. The story then follows a group of people that have been over written by the scientist Ivy with her own personality & Alpha..............who is very much like Echo but not really some how in a way I am not really sure that I under stand & a young boy named Trevor who Alpha gave the ability to over write just little parts of his personality at a time....................& he can learn things like how to do kung fu that way.

I like Trevor! :)

Sooooooo this group is trying to find Ivy. & last ish they did, so in this ish they wrap up the story by at least slowing down Rossum's plans. But the story ends very abruptly & can only continue in another chapter.

I enjoyed the story & the art work is generally very nice although it did seem a little bit uneven through out the series............some times very faithful to the actors from the show & some times just telling the story but not really looking like the actual people.

The covers have all been beautiful & I would suggest buying the tpb.............trade paper back natch!..........just to see all of the covers...........I would hope.............although the story may be a little bit unfulfilling if no more chapters are published!

RATING: 7 phone calls out of 10!!!

& this week end I went to Hal-Con! The largest & greatest sci fi convention in Atlantic Canada! If you are in Halifax next year some time around the end of October or the start of November you should maybe come! You might see this........................

A dalek! Dalek's are cool! ;)

Omg! I forgot! Update!

Suicide Squad #3 (DC)
(Adam Glass & Cliff Richards)

This is not a review of DC's Suicide Squad from this week but I have a question that I hope that some 1 out in the internet land can answer!

Does Harley Quinn actually have an all white skin condition? I thought that she just painted her face white for her Mister J? o,O

American Vampire #20 (Vertigo / DC)

"And yet even so, I had to know."~the beast in the cave

writer: Scott Snyder
artist: Jordi Bernet
colors: Dave McCaig
letters: Jared K. Fletcher
cover by: Rafael Albuquerque
assistant editor: Joe Hughes
editor: Mark Doyle

(American Vampire created by Scott Snyder & Rafael Albuquerque)

So Kara's comic for Comic book week November 2nd, 2011, is "The Beast In The Cave Part 2".............by the wonderful Scott Snyder! I do not think that I could not like any thing that Mr. Snyder writes so let us just start off by clarifying that this will be a good review! ;)

This is the 2nd part of a story from before Skinner Sweet became the 1st American Vampire............in short hand he can survive sunlight & is more like a rattle snake than a bat................or was he? `:/

It appears that Skinner & his later enemy Jim Book grew up together................an unexpected development that does not go against any of the previous tales surprisingly! But this chapter is mostly the story of a native girl that marries a white man at a very young age & then gets purchased by vampires.............& I do not wish to spoil the story but she does become a vampire that is very central to the story................but then a major twist occurs at the end!

Oh & it is all leading to a tremendous battle between a native band & the military band of which Skinner & Book are members................& Skinner is not about to face the ambush that he sees coming! Exciting! XD

Jordi Bernet is an able replacement for the fabulous Rafael Albuquerque with wonderful scratchie art work that is very reminiscent of a Joe Kubert western story & Mr. McCaig's colors are suitably muted.

This is not my most favorite ish but that might be partly because we are sitting in the middle of the whole story but ask me again after the whole tale has been told! :)

RATING: 7 ½ Pocahantases out of 10!!!!!

American Vampire~Survival Of The Fittest #5 of 5 (Vertigo/DC)

Every story that Scott Snyder writes seems to be fabulous! & the last part of this mini series was no different! ed the story! ed the art work! If you did not read it I can only recommend that you buy the tpb........trade paper back natch!.........it is sooooooo good!

9 sunny days!!!!!!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☂

Batgirl #2 (DC)
(Gail Simone, Ardian Syaf, Vicente Cifuentes)

Gail Simone is such a lovely writer! & the art work has very much grown on me from the 1st issue.............but I still miss Oracle! :(

But this is the most fun & incredible cover I have seen in a long time! The cover bumped this ish up my list!

½ sunny days!!!!!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂

Batwoman #2 (DC)
(J.H. Williams, W. Haden Blackman)

The art work of Batwoman is as always soooooo totally beautiful! & the story is interesting & really delivers especially with Maggie Sawyer! Not always 1 of my favs but she stands out as a fabulous character that I look forward to getting to know through out the series. :)

8 sunny days!!!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☂ ☂

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season Nine #2 (Dark Horse)
(Andrew Chambliss, Georges Jeanty, Dexter Vines, Joss Whedon)

Buffy is back! Sooooo totally brings back the glory of the television series. The art work & story are ideal & the ish only falls short because of how incredible the first 3 comix are! :)

& look at beautiful cover! 8O

8 sunny days!!!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☂ ☂

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse Epitaphs #4 of 5 (Dark Horse)
(Andrew Chambliss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharden, Cliff Richards, Andy Owens, Michelle Madsen)

I confess that Dollhouse was not my fav Joss Whedon series but this next to last ish has me on the edge of my seat! The story of Alpha & Echo against a world of Dollhouse created zombies is thrilling!

½ sunny days!!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂ ☂

The Shade #1 of 12 (DC)
(James Robinson & Cully Hamner)

How can I describe an ish by 2 legends like James Robinson & Cully Hamner? It can not be any thing but fabulous! Although it may confuse things a little bit with Justice League Dark! o,O

½ sunny days!!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂ ☂

Legion Lost #2 (DC)
(Fabian Nicieza & Pete Woods)

ing it! The art work is fun & the story is engaging! Not my fav ish of the week but definitely more than enough to make me want to read the next ish! :)

The Walking Dead Weekly #41 (Skybound/Image)
(Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, Cliff Rathburn)

I have not watched the 1st episode of the new season yet but it must be very very very very good to be better than this ish! Robert is always entertaining in his stories even if there is a bit of a same ness to the series after a while...........but the lats page of this ish still managed to shock me! 8O

7 sunny days!!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☂ ☂ ☂

The New Avengers #17 (Marvel)
(Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, Will Conrad, Rain Beredo)

The New Avengers is always fun..........great humor & i now see where  Norman Osborn may be a legitimate threat! But I really do not like the white Spider-Man costume. :(

½ sunny days!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂ ☂ ☂

Resurrection Man #2 (DC)
(Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, Fernando Dagnino)

Fabulous story & art work........but I missed ish #1 so I have come in to the story in the middle..........but it is soooooo good I think that I can catch up............so may be I will  ish #3 a lot more! *fingerscrossed!*

½ sunny days!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂ ☂ ☂

Suicide Squad #2 (DC)
(Adam Glass, Federico Dallocchio, Andrei Bressan)

I read on Twitter that DC thinks that Suicide Squad fills the gap that has been left behind by the end of Sinister 6...........part of it may over flow the gap but it is not the same. There is some humor but Suicide Squad is much more serious. It does make me wonder how Harley Quinn may have fit in with the 6 so there are fond memories there.........& this ish was good enough to make me want to read the next ish to see what happens to Deadshot.............
*pssssssst!DCbringbackcatman&youmitekeepme!* ;9

½ sunny days!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂ ☂ ☂

½ sunny days!!!

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☁ ☂ ☂ ☂

Green Lantern #2 (DC)
(Geoff Johns, Doug Mahnke, Christian Alamy, Keith Champagne)
I think that this ish says some thing about the fact that Green Lantern was my least fav of the week! The art work was fabulous & Geoff Johns is well............Geoff Johns! But I just did not like Hal Jordan in this ish.............he seemed angry & not in touch with people & very in experienced for some 1 who was in the Justice League set 5 years ago! If I thought that Sinestro was going to stay Green Lantern I may be more interested in the next ish but for me............& this is just for me...........this ish felt kindof flat...........sorry! :(
