Aquaman #5 (DC)

"Did you hear about what happened to Aquaman? He got lost in the desert."~unnamed news person

writer: Geoff Johns
penciller: Ivan Reis
inkers: Joe Prado & Eber Ferreira
colorist: Rod Reis
letterer: Nick J. Napolitano
assistant editor: Sean Mackiewicz
editor: Pat Mccallum

(Aquaman created by Paul Norris)

Kara's Comic for Comic Book Week January 25th, 2012 is..................drum roll..................Aquaman #6!

"Lost" continues Geoff Johns' fabulous story line that is making Arthur Curry 1 of the true icons at DC that he should be! While addressing all of the jokes about how Aquaman is less than important in a world with Kal-el & Princess Diana & Bruce Wayne & Barry Allen & Hal Jordan, Aquaman continues to prove all of the jokes wrong. For instance in this ish a disbelieving soldier finds out that Arthur has super hearing! :)

This story begins with Aquaman dropping from the sky in to a desert...............& the scene as well as the breath taking Ivan Reis art work instantly won me over!

The ish then tells of the fight that Arthur has against a mysterious may be Atlantean force that results in him flying through the air & landing in the desert. Aquaman with out water in the worst possible way.........which of course leads to the joke of the quote that I started this write up with..........conveniently not mentioning that Arthur fell from space! 9,9

Aquaman so far has been quick funny stories that any 1 should be able to jump right in to & enjoy! I highly recommend it.............particularly since next ish is "Mera Versus The World"!!!!!!!! yay!

Oh! & this ish gets bonus credits because to my knowledge it is the 1st in the new 52 to show a man in his under wear!!!!!!! :9

yah i thought artie would be a briefs man 2! but more importantly, DC, let us see some more! ;9
& the rating for this month is..........................

RATING: 8 fishies out of 10!!!!

Until next week,  you all! ツ*

♥☃ Winter Wonder Land! ☃♥

This Comic book week of January 18th, 2012, is Kara's 1st Winter Wonder Land!!!!! :)

For some reason I missed this 1 year ago! 9,9

"It's for the other guys, too."~Commissioner James Gordon
Batman #5 (DC)
(Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion)

In "Face the Court" Batman has been captured by the Court Of Owls & is now trapped in a maze & no body knows where he is........Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo are both fabulous but whom ever decided to play with the page lay outs the way the did made this ish go to another level of greatness!!!!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

9 snow flakes!!!!!!!!!
❅❅❅❅❅❅❅❅❅°
"Appears to be a horse."~Captain Of The Thames Bat
Wonder Woman #5 (DC)
(Brian Azzarello, Tony Akins)

Look at the cover of this ish..........that big icky fishie thing is the Greek god Poseidon! The new Wonder Woman has just been taking all common thinking & throwing it away & I am ♥ing it!!!!!! "loudes" is just the most recent ish in a string of originality! :)

8½ snow flakes!!!!!!!!
❅❅❅❅❅❅❅❅♒°
"Babs, we were together last night, right?"~Dinah Lance Drake / Black Canary
Birds Of Prey #5 (DC)
(Duane Swierczynski, Jesus Saiz, Javier Pina)

I have been very undecided on how much I like Birds Of Prey but this ish has Dinah & Babs back together & I am more & more liking Starling & Ivy..............& "Chokepoint"...........besides being a cheesie name..............brings lots of mystery to the spyish like story!

7½ snow flakes!!!!!!
❅❅❅❅❅❅❅ ° °
"Oh gods, Kara, what are you doing?!"~Kara Zor-el / Supergirl
Supergirl #5 (DC)
(Michael Green, Mike Johnson, Mahmud Asrar)

Kara goes home to Argo City in "Homecoming" but does not find all that she expected..............not as ♥ breaking as I had hoped that it might be, but very enjoyable. Not the best ish of the series but still good! :/

7½ snow flakes!!!!!!
❅❅❅❅❅❅❅ ° °
"Captain America is down."~Giant H.A.M.M.E.R. Agent
The Avengers #21 (Marvel)
(Brian Michael Bendis, Renato Guedes, Jose Magalhaes, Jason Keith)

This was a fun ish as Norman Osborne sends H.A.M.M.E.R. after the Avengers in a very unique way as Jessica Drew proves that she is 1 tough lady...........but why is Storm on the cover while she is unconscious for the whole ish? ':S

7 snow flakes!!!!
❅❅❅❅❅❅❅°°°
"So what happened last night?"~♥Dick Grayson / Nightwing
Nightwing #5 (DC)
(Kyle Higgins, Eddy Barrows, Paolo Siqueira, Eber Ferreira)

Oh my precious Dick! I ♥ you & your comix but "'Til Death Do Us Part" was just kindof ickie & cluttered & confusing..........it was not bad! Just not as fabulous as I have come to expect. & it did not quite feature the fun active visceral art work that the fighting with Saiko had in past ishes...............but I knew I did not like that Raya! >:(

7 snow flakes!!!!

The Shade #4 (DC)

"It was April 14, 1944. And I confess, until that day, my only anti-German act had been abstaining from Pumpernickel."~The Shade

writer: James Robinson
penciller: Darwin Cooke
inker: J. Bone
colorist: Dave Stewart
letterer: Todd Klein
cover artist: Tony Harris
variant cover artist: Darwyn Cooke
editor: Wil Moss

Kara's comic for Comic Book Week January 11th, 2012, is a slice of the past, "Times Past: 1944~Family Ties Part III"!

I just thought that this ish was fabulous! As The Shade says in the quote above this is a story about a past time that turns out to fit right in with the rest of this mini series some what amazingly! With only 6 parts to tell a whole story James Robinson still manages to write a fill in story recalling his Starman series that made The Shade the character that he is now but further the story line just the same..............with art work by Darwyn Cooke & J. Bone & Dave Stewart that just finishes a wonderful package!!

The story takes place in World War 2 when The Shade was a villain but decides for a very important reason that he must protect Darnell Caldecott...........a millionaire British / American industrialist who dedicated to fighting the Nazi menace. So The Shade recruits 2 golden age super heroes(?) by offering them important information..............1 that is very recognizable & the other that surprised me too much to spoil it for any of you that may read the story! ;)

If any of the rest of the new 52 continues to be cancelled I hope that The Shade might be a replacement!

RATING: 9 shades out of 10!!!!!!

lol! I just noticed an important clue on the cover to 1 of the 3 mysteries in this story! Can you guess what it is?  ツ*

Fatale #1 (Image)

"So here's how my entire life went off the tracks in one day."~Nicolas Lash

writer: Ed Brubaker
artist: Sean Phillips
colors: Dave Stewart

Kara's first comic for 2012 & the Comic book week January 4th, 2012 is Fatale "Book One: Death Chases Me"..................simply amazing!!!!! 8O

As just the latest in a string of dark filme noire like stories by Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips Fatale looks like it will be just as fabulous as all of the others................the story is dark & mysterious as is the main character Josephine who the it appears as if it will circle around. & the art work is so very well suited as it is dark & inky with muted colors but descriptive & detailed & sexy at the same time............... it! :)

The tale so far is about Nicolas Lash who is the executor of his father's friend's estate. The friend is a detective story writer & Lash meets the grand daughter of the writer's lost love at his funeral..................who just happens to have the same name & face as her grand mother. Mr. Lash then finds an unpublished manuscript & we begin to read the story of what is probably the writer & grand mother meeting.

I can not stress that Mr.s Brubaker & Phillips are sooooooooooo enticing with all of their collaborations! Last week I said that their "Criminal: Last Of The Innocent" was my fav mini series of last year & "Sleeper: Season 1" is 1 of my fav TPBs............trade paper backs natch!.............ever! You should try these gentle mens' work out! :)

RATING: 8 filme noires out of 10!!!!!!!

When I think of filme noire I think of this 1st for some reason! Bye! *mwah!* ッ*

The 1st Annual Kara Awards!!!!!!! ;*)

Happy New Year all you fabulous friends that I have & have not met! *hugs&kisses!* :*)

Here in the 1st week of 2012 I am going to pick my favs from 2011 & grant them a prestigious Kara Award or an SG! & to assist me I would like to welcome Mister Iron Man himself..............ROBERT DOWNEY JUNIOR! lol! ;9

All of the greatest comix start with a great story & all of the greatest stories start with a great writer...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Writer are..........
  1. Gail Simone for Secret 6, Birds of Prey, Batgirl & Fury of Firestorm!
  2. Scott Snyder for Detective Comics, Batman, American Vampire & Severed!
  3. Chris Roberson for Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love & iZombie!
  4. Bryan Q. Miller for Batgirl & Smallville!
  5. Ed Brubaker for Criminal: The Last Of The Innocent, Captain America & Secret Avengers!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................

While all of the above writers were absolutely fabulous in 2011 Scott Snyder was the most consistently incredible with his run on Detective Comics flowing seamlessly in to Batman! & I feel like Mister Snyder was the 1 writer that made Dick Grayson ( ;9 ) as Batman different than Bruce Wayne as Batman but still true to Dick`s character.
Once a story is formed it is the task of the artist to put that story on paper...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Artist are..........
  1. J. Calafiore for Secret 6!
  2. Steve McNiven for Captain America!
  3. J.H. Williams for Batwoman!
  4. Jock for Detective Comics!
  5. Michael Allred for iZombie!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................
The art work on this cover by Jock is my absolute favorite work of the year! It is horrifying & beautiful & could be on a museum wall! All 5 artists above are deserving of the artist SG.............& if there were a category for sweetest guy Steve McNiven would get it hands down!...............but Jock`s art work on Detective Comics this year was absolutely to die for!
When art work & story blend each & every month consistently then a comic book becomes a fabulous story...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Series are..........
  1. Secret 6 (DC)!
  2. Detective Comics (DC)!
  3. Supergirl (DC)!
  4. Angel & Faith (Dark Horse)!
  5. Batgirl (DC)!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................
The Secret 6 by Gail Simone & J. Calafiore was taken away from us far before its time! :`(
Before a series can become great it must have a great issue...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Single Issue are..........
  1. Secret 6 #36 (DC)!
  2. Captain America & Thor The Mighty Fighting Avengers Free Comic Book Day Special (Marvel)!
  3. Detective Comics #875 (DC)!
  4. Batgirl #24 (DC)!
  5. Detective Comics #877 (DC)!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................
Detective Comics #875 is a story about Commissioner James Gordon & his family..............& it is fabulously brilliant! If this had been the only comic book that I had read this year it would have been very satisfying! Amazing!
Great stories & great series require great characters...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Character are..........
  1. Dick Grayson!
  2. Barbara Morse!
  3. Kara Zor-el!
  4. Zinda Blake!
  5. Stephanie Brown!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................
In 2010 I barely knew who Stephanie Brown was & in 2012 I do not think she exists..........but as of Batgirl #24 she became my Batgirl forever! :')
Mini Series & One Shots allow writers & artists to tell a great story about a great character in a self contained portion...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Mini are..........
  1. Criminal: The Last Of The Innocent (Icon / Marvel)!
  2. Fear Itself (Marvel)!
  3. Flashpoint (DC)!
  4. Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love (Vertigo / DC)!
  5. America Vampire: Survival Of The Fittest (Vertigo / DC)!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................
Soooooooooo amazing! Criminal: The Last Of The Innocent by Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips is such a strange story of that red head from Riverdale after he grows up! lol! X))
Once a great story has been told or a great character created then Hollywood will come to grab it up...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Movie are..........
  1. Green Lantern!
  2. Thor!
  3. Captain America: The First Avenger!
  4. The Green Hornet!
  5. X-men: First Class!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................

As with the other categories my fav movie was limited to the movies that I had watched but Captain America was soooooooo much fun! & omg Chris Evans chest is just....................X9 !

DC Comics restarted the whole universe this year to provide same day publishing in comic book & online formats demonstrating the power of the belief that the internet is the future of comix...........the nominees for Kara's Favorite Webcomic are..........

  1. Questionable Content!
  2. The Adventures of Superhero Girl!
  3. The Pound: Horror Business!
  4. Hark! A Vagrant!
  5. True Story By Mike Holmes!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................

THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERHERO GIRL
The Adventures Of Superhero Girl by Faith Erin Hicks is just lots & lots of fun! Go & read it right after you are finished here! You will not be sorry!

So what do I think will be the comic book that will win all of the SGs next year? What do I think was the best new comic book of the last year? The nominees for Kara's Favorite New Comic are..........
  1. Animal Man (DC)!
  2. Angel & Faith (Dark Horse)!
  3. Supergirl (DC)!
  4. Nightwing (DC)!
  5. Batman (DC)!
& the winner of the SG is *drumroll!*.....................
Supergirl! It started out a little bit rough but I really like where the story looks like it is heading..................the only element that I hope hope hope hope hope that they change are Kara's boots! I ♥ shoes but those just do not work! 9,9
