Kara`s comic for Comic book week October 5th, 2011, is "Crossbow At The Crossroads"..........the 1st ish of a 6 ish mini series for the queen of the mini series.............Helena Bertinelli also known as The Huntress!

The Huntress was also the name of a golden age villainess who dresses a lot like Wonder Woman villain Cheetah, & then she was the daughter of Batman & Catwoman from another Earth..............but this Helena...............at least I think because nothing in this ish says that she has changed!............is the daughter of a mafia don who's parents were murdered by her father's rivals.............& Helena vowed revenge! Since then she has had at least 4 mini series...............I think...............& been a member of the Birds of Prey & may be the Justice League since it implies here that she knows either Clark Kent or Lois Lane.

Helena is a fav of mine as I find her character very unique for comix.............like in all of the gangster movies where the mobsters all go to church & ask forgiveness for the murders they just committed Helena takes that contradiction into the world of super heroes............which is why I miss the gold cross that she used to wear! But even though her dual nature is not so much reflected in her appearance any more Helena is still a very unique character in both her spirituality & violence.............& in the way she is kindof on the out side of the Bat Family looking in.............saying she does not need the others but almost treating Bruce / Bats as like a surrogate father.

So in this story Helena has travelled to Italy to stop an illegal shipment of weapons that is heading to Gotham but finds that the shipment contains some thing even worse forcing her to try to stop the gang entirely. The story is not some thing that has not been told before but it is well told & the way Helena will solve the case is poised to be a good stand alone adventure.

Sadly the story suffers a little bit from the same criticism that the new DC seems to assume that women will not read comix................hello! yoo! hoo! Hi! Hello? 9,9

Although not even close to the misogynous Catwoman, the story starts off with Helena commenting on how helpful she finds it to manipulate men & ends with her in a baby doll. To be fair neither situation is written to make her a man hater or a sex object............& both fit in to the story.............they just jump out due to the criticisms! After all I do not recall seeing Clark or Bruce or Barry or Hal or Arthur in their under wear or pajamas in their 1st ishes!.............although I would pay DC extra for Dick to be in his under wear in Nightwing #2! ;;9

So as I said the story............by 1 of Helena's creators btw!............is good. & the art work is perhaps even better............suitable for the best dressed heroine in comix..............♥ed that off the shoulder purplie out fit! :)

RATING: 7 fully dressed women out of 10!

bye! ツ*
